a letter from the director

Bromley Brook School continues in its quest to help girls who have difficulties in traditional school settings find success in school and beyond. Our girls are very capable, and with the proper support and guidance, our graduates are finding success in college and more traditional private schools. Schools grow organically, and if a school listens carefully, the needs of its students will give it direction and integrity. Bromley Brook School is now entering its third year, and we are celebrating our increased clarity of purpose and achievement.
Vermont offers our students a rare opportunity to connect with simpler community values. There is swimming, hiking and berry-picking in the summer; skating, snow shoeing and skiing in the winter. Girls can play soccer and basketball competitively, or engage in fitness opportunities. There are music lessons on the piano in the Fireplace Room, and knitting classes in the Sunset Room. There are leadership opportunities on various school committees and as student advocates for our Values Council. It is so important that girls believe that their voice counts, and there is no better way to confirm that than to help them influence the school culture. Girls struggle with fairness, and participation in the Faculty/Student values council encourages them to understand the School's and larger societal expectations.
Robust counseling services support the entire school. Our students explore and mitigate difficulties in one on one therapy as well as in themed groups, as they work their way to independence and autonomy. Our Master's level therapists bring a varied background of experience and expertise from wilderness programs to therapeutic boarding schools. We believe very strongly that parents are partners in the therapeutic process, and we provide a variety of opportunities for them to be involved, including regularly scheduled parent seminars featuring noted thinkers and writers on the issues facing young women in the modern world. Of course therapy doesn't stop at the therapist's door; it is woven into the fabric of the school, from the academic day to the community life curriculum, and our professionals work together as a team to celebrate and support girls' learning.
Please contact our Admissions Office with any questions or to schedule a visit, and we will introduce you to this special tapestry of learning and support that will help your daughters to thrive.
